Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This means them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
