Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
